Creating Your Rule of Life

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

In a recent blog, Pandemic and Liminality, I mentioned something that has been helpful for me was writing my rule of life for COVID-19. Simply put, a rule of life is a tool that helps you live the way you are called to live. A rule of life is meant to be a commitment established through prayer and discernment with the Lord. It is different from writing a set of goals or resolutions in order to accomplish objectives. Goals and resolutions are usually about "doing" certain tasks in order to live the way you would like to live. A rule of life, discerned in step with the Spirit, is about "being" rather than "doing." It is crafted out of a sense of who God has called you to be.

I have posted several resources below if you are interested in more information about creating your own rule of life.

Through the Unexpected Grace Blog I offer encouragement to help you engage deeply with Father, Son, and Spirit. I do this by posting some of what I am learning, along with resources for your journey - such as prayer practices, articles, books, workshops, and retreats.

My hope and my prayer is to see lives lived in God's grace.
